Karen Mortimer is originally from Vancouver, Canada and now calls the beautiful Sunshine Coast home. She is a certified School Psychologist in Canada and is a Provisional Psychologist registered with AHPRA in Australia. Karen is also a registered teacher in both British Columbia and in Queensland.
Karen has experience working with, and supporting, children, adolescents, and families with a variety of learning, developmental, and behavioural needs and the social and emotional challenges that go along with this. Karen loves working with children and began her career as a primary and middle school classroom teacher, then a learning support teacher, and has been a psychologist working with children, adolescents and families for the past 7 years.
Karen has worked in both the public and private school systems as a teacher and a psychologist and also has worked in private practice. Karen has extensive experience in conducting cognitive, educational and developmental assessments in addition to working with students and parents to build executive functioning skills, learn anxiety reduction strategies, and to understand learning strengths and weaknesses especially in the context of learning disabilities. Karen also facilitates group intervention programs for children to build social skills and anxiety management skills. She uses evidence-based interventions including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness. Karen has also completed training to administer the ADOS.
